Symptoms may include epigastric fullness, pain, burning sensation, bloating, discomfort, nausea, early satiety, vomiting undigested food.
These disorders must be considered only after excluding structural and metabolic diseases by taking thorough medical history, routine laboratory studies, and ultrasound imaging. Then, solid-phase gastric emptying studies may detect gastroparesis, electrogastrography detects disturbed myoelectrical dysfunction. Also, there are more invasive tests such as intraluminal pressure and gastric tone recording.
There is no cure for disorders of function of stomach and treatment may include dietary counseling and gastroprokinetic agents.
