This group contains additional names: - Ventriculomegaly - Temporal Sclerosis
Ventriculomegaly refers to a condition in which the ventricles of the brain, where the SCF is, are enlarged. Hydrocephalus is the main concern when speaking of ventriculomegaly that happens when the SCF builds up in the ventricles. Sometimes, when there is mild ventriculomegaly, it is benign and does not require any treatment. The brain’s ventricles develop around week 15 of pregnancy. Causes for ventriculomegaly may include hydrocephalus, imbalance of CSF production and absorption, defects in brain development and damage or loss in brain tissue.

Diagnosis is based upon findings from medical history and physical examination. Further evaluation may include a brain ultrasound.
It usually resolves on its own. If needed, in order to reduce pressure, SCF is being drained away by a shunt.
