How do you tell a doctor that an appointment made you uncomfortable? I had an appointment on Monday where the dr (I had known for less than 30 minutes) said that I can't be autistic because "I want to make friends". he also kept saying that he was going to fix me which is completely unprofessional. he diagnosed me with complex PTSD which I'm not going to deny, it fits, and I'm fully aware that cptsd and PTSD share traits with ASD however I think he was uneducated in how neuro divergence can present in AFAB people and he was asking me questions that seemed to be focused around PTSD im not diagnosed but have been seeking to get an assessment for over a year now and have been researching about it for about a year before that.

You can make a complaint to whatever board he is certified under if you don't feel comfortable confronting him directly. Online ratings can help let other people know what you felt.

Okay first off, fuck that guy! Most people are working with a VERY limited knowledge of autism, especially when it comes to non-white, non-amab people or adults in general. I, personally, would likely never go back, but my initial adrenaline response is flight or fawn, so I can't give you advice on how to talk to him because I wouldn't be able to. However, if you're seeking a diagnosis, look up specialists in adult and female diagnosis. I know you may not be female, but that's how they'll word it in searches. Good luck!!

@Alyss Also to note that when I met with my specialist, I had neuropsychological testing done to get my autism diagnosis. If you do want to go back to this doctor, maybe specifically request those tests.

To address your discomfort with a doctor, you can try reaching out to the doctor's office and request a follow-up appointment or phone call to discuss your concerns. Express your feelings about the appointment and explain why you felt uncomfortable with the doctor's approach. You can also mention that you believe the doctor may not be fully informed about how neurodivergence presents in AFAB individuals and suggest exploring other assessments or seeking a second opinion from a specialist in ASD.
