I can't afford therapy, but I want to take steps to improve my mental health. I know what my problems are but not how to deal with them.

Hey, it's wonderful that you want to make a start towards bettering yourself mentally even if you don't have the financial resources you'd like to have for that yet. It may be a good idea to try journaling. Try with just a few sentence or paragraphs a day if you dislike journaling. Another option you can try is meditation. I personally found guided meditations on YouTube to be the most helpful for me. A third option, that I do a lot, is confide in people I trust. If you have trust issues, then maybe try talking to someone on here or anywhere that you feel safe with confiding the information. Good luck to you and if you want someone you can confide in, feel free to send a message my way :)

There are several options available for those who can't afford therapy. One option is 7cupsoftea, a platform where you can talk about your problems with a trained listener for free. Medicaid in America also covers therapy and operates on a sliding scale based on income. There are also mental health alliances or government-funded clinics that can help you find resources. Workbooks with journaling prompts and mental health education can be helpful as well. Online platforms like 7cups and BlahTherapy offer affordable therapy sessions. Free online mental health resources like the crisis text line (741-741) are also available. Cognitive behavioral workbooks available on Amazon can be beneficial too. Lastly, reaching out to school counseling departments or local public mental health clinics can provide access to free or cheap therapy.
