I meet with my doctor in a few days and I'm really hoping to pursue an autism diagnosis so that I can get access to the accommodations I need. The problem: my mom doesn't believe me. She says I'm too good at socializing to be autistic and won't even hear me out because "she was a special ed teacher so she knows better than me" about my own brain. It's upsetting but my main question is: how can I convince her and my doctor to let me at least get tested?

To Daisy: I will definitely do some extra research, but that also leads to a problem: my mom thinks that I just "look too much into things" and it's because I have so much time alone to research and "convince myself I have something". But, the research can definitely help convince my doctor, who might be able to help convince my mom. Thank you <3

My guardian said the same thing except for she wasn't a special teacher she was in med school I later got diagnosed the same year that I left her home it can be extremely difficult to get a diagnosis but definitely write down every single symptom and if they ask you if you like trains say yes even if you don't because it's not the real question there

Writing down notes and organizing your thoughts can help you convey your concerns to your doctor and shows that you’ve put in a lot of research and thought

I would research and find symptoms of autism in females because oftentimes social behaviors are different in individuals. For example i can communicate typically but i am still autistic. Also research self diagnosis i know accomodations can't occur with self diagnosis but it can help in the meantime.
