Seeking Autism Diagnosis as a Woman
Lately I’ve been doing some research on autism and the different ways it affects people and I see myself relating to a lot of the things described. I would love to get tested for it i feel a diagnosis like that if true, would help me to understand myself better. However i was born a female and i know its much harder to identify in women, and nobody in my life takes me seriously when i tell them this is a real possibility, they think im crazy for considering autism a possibility and i feel very alone in this situation.

I myself am looking for a diagnosis. My mom claims I’m “too smart to have autism”, which I know has nothing to do with it. My therapist wants me tested. I’ll likely do it when I’m 18.

while i have on my profile that i have asd, it’s the only one i have no official diagnosis for. i’ve had most all my psychologists and therapists suggest being tested because they believe i have highly functioning autism. my mom and my primary doctor not only don’t want me me tested, but deny autism as a possibility. my mom even calls it fake sometimes! it’s really hard to struggle with something without answers, especially when you cant really self diagnose but you have so many people against you doing so. you’re not crazy and you’re definitely not alone. keep pushing! you deserve real answers

I’m sorry to hear that. I was diagnosed last year and my mom still doesn’t believe me and a few friends. It’s really tough to navigate but knowing for myself has been huge for me.
