The Importance of Using the Correct ADHD Terminology

I see a lot of people on here having ADD in their description instead of adhd which means the app says we don’t have it in common but add is an outdated term, everyone with adhd has hyperactivity there’s no reason to leave that out it just can be internalised or suppressed but it’s a main part of adhd just shows differently in different people and I wish people didn’t use the term add as that causes people to ignore internalised hyperactivity which can be damaging and means I can’t connect to a lot of people here that might have the same experiences as me because they’ve been told they’re not hyperactive, hope news spreads soon that the new knowledge on adhd is that it can appear as inattentive hyperactive or combined on a different day but everyone with it experiences all, I was diagnosed combined because I was exhibiting both sides on my diagnosis day but really I experience both sides to varying degrees

It is very weird, especially when there are certain conditions you put in and it autocorrects you to a condition you *don't have*. It's more than a little infuriating. Like, yes, those with inattentive type don't present with hyperactivity for the most part (in the way society views hyperactivity), but we still do experience the same disorder. Tbh, the whole thing should be entirely renamed anyway. It's not an attention deficit disorder-it's a dopamine deficit disorder. I think if the name was switched in that way things would process a lot easier for societal acceptance

completely agree, I was helping my boyfriend get diagnosed as he definitely has it the same as me and it was awful that when he was telling the psychiatrist all he experiences the psychiatrist said “people with adhd don’t struggle with motivation at all” whatttt it’s literally a motivational disorder lmfao it’s so misunderstood

I do find it strange how ADD is still on here but it's possible that it's si.ply because not everyone is able to see a provider to get it updated to ADHD.

yes perhaps, people still refer to it so much as ADD though I wish they knew it was the same disorder as adhd
