What is it?

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that is also known as acne inversa. it is characterized by the occurrence of inflammed and swollen lumps. These are typically painful and may break open, releasing fluid or pus. The areas most commonly affected are the underarms, under the breasts, and the groin.
The exact cause is unclear but believed to involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors. The mechanism involves obstruction of hair follicles and consequent inflammation. The condition is not caused by an infection, poor hygiene, or the use of deodorant.

Signs & symptoms

* red, pimple-like bumps, usually in the armpits, under the breasts and the groin area.
* Pain
* nodules that leak or drain
