I’ve heard it described as being allergic to standing up. Basically the blood vessels in my body don’t properly contract to push blood up in the body when I stand up, causing low blood pressure and my heart beats really fast to make up for it, which means every time I change positions, my body responds to it as if it is intense exercise, which is exhausting. The main symptoms I have are weakness, pre-syncope, fatigue, dizziness, blood pooling in my legs, headaches and migraines…we struggle in the heat, stressful situations, when dehydrated, or from any physical activity. Things that help are lots of fluids, electrolytes and salt!!

@lilbean34 thank you!! I hope I get tested properly for this 🙌 I have a reg doc app coming up. Is there anything I need to know prior that would be helpful? I’d hate to be brushed off 😥

@Katharina before my appt where I was diagnosed, I spent some time writing a full list of all the symptoms/issues I had and then handed that to the doctor. Personally I get so uncomfortable at the doctor so it helped me to do that rather than freeze up and not remember what to say. Don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t go well, there are always more doctors out there and one of them will help you out ❤️

POTS, or Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, is a condition where the blood pressure and heart rate increase significantly when changing positions such as sitting up or standing up. There are three subtypes of POTS: neuropathic, hypovolemic, and hyperadenergic. Symptoms can include migraines, insomnia, adrenal surges, blood pooling, chronic pain, syncope or pre-syncope, chest pain, shortness of breath, severe cold spells, fatigue, muscle soreness, and brain fog.
