How do I manage toxic empathy? I feel other's emotions so much. ESPECIALLY my best friend. We were talking about our mental illnesses and I feel. so bad for her that it affects me more than it should, I wish I could just make everything better for her. I'd do anything for that. I've looked on google but everything basically just says "stop" and doesn't actually elaborate on HOW I can make it better.

Some people can't be helped. You can't always "fix" everyone, but this seems anxiety-based and you may be an empath as well. Being an empath is not a bad thing at all.

One thing that helps me is to actually do something that might help the person. So make your friend an emergency care kit and give it to her. Help her make that difficult phone call. Ask her for something specific you can do to help. Before I’ve done any action is when I’m stuck in feeling so emotional and powerless to help. It’s okay to feel empathy strongly, but it’s also important to remember that they are the person who has to handle their own emotions. The most we can do is support them. If we try to do it for them, they’ll still be stuck.
