Does anyone else ever get empathy burnout? Sometimes, especially during or after stressful moments, I get incredibly irritable with people who come to me to vent or ask for help. I don't mind them being in my space or interacting with me, but as soon as I have to empathize or sympathize with someone I get unreasonably frustrated and feel like they're being selfish for some reason. Any advice on how to explain to others that I just can't help them at that time? Or thoughts on how to minimize these feelings? I feel really mean afterwards for not wanting to help and getting so annoyed.

i sadly don’t have any helpful advice but i just wanted to say it’s kinda comforting to know i’m not the only one that struggles with this. i’m dealing with the empathy burnout right now with my boyfriend since we’ve been arguing lately and it really makes me feel like a huge jerk :( hope we can both figure out how to come to a solution soon
