did the first eye movement processing of emdr yesterday. it was so intense but good. we processed a target memory within an hours session. I didn't sleep much last night though and feel so strange and down today. any tips or experiences? we have lots of different memories to target so I think this will be quite a difficult time

I'm not In a position to think what worked because I've done so many sessions I do know the support of someone close and in your home really helps and my therapist was able to get me In weekly . We also did neuro optimal which has to do with the tones in the music and it retrains your brain ... EMDR is phenomenal !!! It may get rough but I was told it's very rare to cause agitation as it did for me. So that safe person is super important that they won't bring you down because you are upset and they don't take offense to your mood changes.

i've never had emdr but what i can say is that coping and processing is always a difficult time. reliving it all and absorbing everything that's happened is a long and painful process. be sure to take it easy during the time and try being easy on yourself. some things to help sleep and emotions are: cherries are a good source of melatonin, lavender sprays or smells can be helpful, warm shower before bed, journaling down your thoughts and breaking them down on your own, sleep in one position and keep your eyes closed, listen to soft music if possible or practice some deep breathing or watch some of your favorite creator's videos to unwind for a while. crying usually makes me sleepy so maybe that can help you too. take it easy! hope all goes well in your therapy c:

One user shared their experience with EMDR therapy, stating that it can be very relaxing but also very draining. They suggested giving yourself the rest of the day and the next day if possible to relax and do some self-care after sessions. It's normal to feel drained and down after an intense session, so take care of yourself and allow time for recovery.
