Has anyone tried EMDR therapy?

I was recommended EMDR therapy. Does anyone have any experience?

I’ve never been through EMDR but I’ve heard a lot of mixed things about it. Some say it’s incredibly helpful and others say it’s more detrimental than anything else. I’d say it’s worth trying but to be aware of what you’re getting into

So if you are ready to face it, you know you can and you're ready to get better, go forward with it because it does work.

I was recommended that, but ruled it out personally. You have to be totally ready to come face to face with your trauma. You get almost "hypnotized" into going into your subconscious mind to face the trauma at the source. If you start EMDR and choose to not face the trauma & force yourself back to a conscious state, your side effects of PTSD will worsen.

I have experience working through small traumas but I still havent gotten to the BIG STUFF. In my experience its very relaxing but also VERY draining. For your first few sessions, give yourself the rest of the day and the next day if possible to relax and do some self care. The actual EMDR itself made me sleepy during my sessions, that's how relaxing it was. but then leaving the session and getting home that relaxation turned into just. being so. so. drained. I couldn't do anything but lay in bed on my phone or watching tv. Dont feel bad if it does the same for you!! You're going to be doing really hard, really introspective, and really raw and vulnerable work.
