how do you know if your therapist is the one for you? i’ve had one for almost 2 months now and it feels like either 1) i’m just ranting to a friend or 2) she tells me things/asks me things i’m already aware of. i’ve heavily considered changing therapists altogether bc i don’t think she understands my brain that well & kinda questions my trauma to the point of discomfort. am i being too impatient? how do i know if it’s time to move on?

I have had 7 therapists and only 1 of them actually got somewhere with me. It’s so hard :( I just started working with a life coach and I REALLY like where I am going with her. It’s a completely different approach. Because traditional therapy wasn’t working for me I figured I’d try an alternative route and I’m really grateful

I usually know in the first few sessions if I like the therapists style and if they get me!

if i felt like my therapist didn’t understand my brain, i’d definitely switch to someone new. if you want to give her another shot though (since it hasn’t been too too long) maybe try bringing this up to her and discuss more long term goals you wanna work towards! communication with a therapist is so key :)

you should be able to talk to them as easily as you would talk to a friend and feel comfortable with them! it can take lots of tries to find the right person but think about what you want from a therapist before working with one! and remember, theres no shame in switching!
