So I have a question for those who have or are going through therapy. When you started did your therapist do most of the talking, trying to help with your nagging thoughts & or on guard feeling? I'm trying to see if I should find another therapist seeing as I haven't gotten to really talk about what I feel like I need to talk about or if I need to wait a while seeing as it's only been 2 visits so far. Any advice would help.

So I've been on both sides. I'm a therapist, but I've also seen therapists. I think everyone has a different, unique style and not everyone's style works for everyone. I think it's good to identify what you want and need and be honest with the person about what that is. Like others have said it's okay to tell the person you want them to talk more or less. If you just want a space to openly vent and talk through a situation or you want them to provide more guidance it's okay to say that and it could change from session to session depending on how you're feeling that particular day.

Just like people, there are a lot of therapists with different personalities and approaches to conversation. With my first therapist, her approach to therapy wasn't clicking with me so what I did was before looking for a new therapist, I made a list of things that do and don't work for me. For example: I need some sort of structure to the session instead of a general question of 'how was your week?' because then I'd feel like I'd need to answer the question even if it wasn't relevant to my needs.
Hi đ Iâve had a couple different therapists and none of them felt too helpful or proactive/involved with my problems I was trying to work through, mostly a âthat must be difficultâ comfort thing. But last year I met this therapist who is amazing and really wants to understand the way healing feels best to you and then play Into that. My advice is be honest about what you want. Do you want someone just to vent to without judgement or input? Or do you want someone who gives you practical solutions and goals to help structure your life? If youâre afraid what you say might get you sectioned? Let them know, and you can establish boundaries and theyâll give you breathing room for it. Communication is key, not just getting out what youâre feeling, but your needs and what comforts you. I hope this helps!
Some therapists are chatty Its gotten to the point where I request in thr first apt that they give me space to talk and feel heard
It took mea hear to feel connected to therapist. Not easy, but if you are finding it may not work then no shame in taking care of you .the wait time here for counselors is long so I guess I have stayed with mine for that reason too.
