I've tried multiple anti depressants as well as xanax. None seem to work. Are there any vitamins or supplements that have helped anyone? I want to try a more natural remedy approach to my anxiety.

My functional medicine Dr has just put me on omega 3, vit D, b12 and a women's probiotic. I am deficient in all of these but they all help with mental health as well !

Weed helped me so much. I got off all sorts of mental health meds which were doing nothing for my depression, OCD or C-PTSD, using cannabis. If your state doesn't have it legally available, look into CBD, it's nonpsychoactive and has fewer legal restrictions, but is still helpful for many with depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and sleep disorders.

I take all kinds of herbs and supplements on occasion, most of which help even in a placebo way. I think my favorites are catnip, lavender, GABA, valerian, and mugwort :)

@beanathon Oh and St. John’s wort is proven better than any antidepressant drug

@beanathon St John's Wort has SSRI properties, so it's essentially an all-natural Prozac. It helps those who are helped by SSRI medications, but not everybody gets good outcomes from either. It's also DANGEROUS to take alongside antidepressants which work on serotonin levels, as well as other meds including dextromethorphan (cough suppressant and dissociative psychedelic at recreational doses) and tramadol (opioid painkiller with secondary serotonergic effects,) as well as many recreational drugs like MDMA (Ecstasy/Molly) and LSD. Serotonin is tricky. More is not always better. We feel good when our levels are normal, we feel AWESOME when our levels are slightly elevated, but a serotonin overdose (serotonin syndrome) more or less literally fries your brain like the egg in that dumb old anti-drug ad, because it causes your body to lose its ability to regulate temperature and you get a rapid, high fever. It can range from a milder form where you're a weird mix of jittery and fatigued (like how you might feel if you don't sleep one night and chug coffee to try to compensate,) tons of hot flashes, and irritability. This is what happened to me when I started taking St John's Wort in addition to antidepressants cause the latter weren't helping. When I took a pharmacology class for my psych major, it clicked for me why that had happened. In extreme overdoses (like if you took Prozac and a ton of MDMA together,) it's a medical emergency, including incessant vomiting, tremors, super high fever, hallucinations/delusions, and seizures. So... Definitely make sure it doesn't mix badly with anything else you take before trying St John's Wort. If you already take anything for depression, MAKE SURE it doesn't interact before you try it.

Hi there!! I take a mix of my antidepressant and natural remedy tinctures! I've noticed that sometimes my antidepressants dont do enough, I can definitely feel that they are helping when I've forgotten to take them a few days and felt a huge difference, but they're not perfect and so I use natural remedies to try and give me a boost. I usually take Valerian Root, Passion Flower Extract, and HRJAKSIDHABAMSLCPIDBWBWBRHCIK daily. I've also recently gotten my Medical Card for MMJ for my back pain but it does wonders for stress and anxiety as well but assuming that you may not be from a state where it's legal before I got my card the natural remedies did help. They're not a fix all but they help. Also sunlight. Vitamin D deficiency is a lot more serious than people think. Even just 5 minutes a day starts doing wonders I'm serious if you have a dog take them out on a walk or go out and sit in your yard and just feel the outside for a bit grab something to drink and a book and relax a bit. Go on a mid morning walk right before it starts getting hot (depending on what state you're in currently) but outdoor activities are very beneficial

I grew up in alaska and a lot of people got depression from the lack of sunlight. Try a vitamin d supplement and a happy light, it might help ❤️

i used to take anti-depressants but then i stopped because they weren't working. i realized with the help of my doctor that my anxiety is what ends up fueling my depression so focusing on finding anti-anxiety meds has helped me a lot personally. and maybe that can help?

Ashwagandha has seemed to be helpful for a lot of people, as well as a tea called "Rassa."
