What are good hobbies/distractions to keep myself afloat? Thanks to my current situation, I mostly have to stay at home. I had four deaths in the family all in the same year and have been dealing with a lot. I'm doing what I can to stop things from getting worse (trying to avoid unhealthy coping mechanisms), but I get stuck in my own head a lot and need new ideas. I used to be into creative writing but find it draining nowadays (not abandoning it but just need to step back). I'm a big fan of movies and they've helped me a lot, but it's getting harder to find stuff I haven't watched yet that I'll enjoy. Used to be into video games but I've found that they're really addictive for me. My days drag and blend together which doesn't help with my depression. I rarely know what day of the month/week it is, but I don't have any "outside factors" to connect me to the world (don't have local friends or a job that requires leaving the house). And I'm a caregiver for a family member who needs constant supervision at home.

I'd recommend reading books, especially fantasy books, or activities you can do from your window (or backyard if you have a house) like birdwatching, identifying flora / fauna, or gardening. For birdwatching and identifying flora and fauna, you can also contribute to biodiversity studies in your area and make some money on the side. Something else that might help is doing something active, like using a treadmill or taking dance classes on an app on your phone. Because exercising releases endorphins, or the feel-good neurotransmitters of your body, you can start to feel better really quickly. In addition, it can help prevent future physical problems resulting from depression because you're not just sitting in one spot all day. With some exercise apps, you can also create a routine where you do A,B,C on Mondays, D,E,F on Tuesdays, etcetera so you have a better track of time. I can recommend some apps if you want to message me privately. One more side note before I go - I'm so sorry about the recent death in your family. It's tough getting through that. That being said, don't give up. You've got this. There are people on the internet who are ready to cheer you on, even if they don't know it yet. ❤️

Any art. If you can't write apart of the book maybe do a short side story or something. But I have a lot of ideas. If you wanna message me I can share them.

Some hobbies and distractions to consider include crocheting, playing games on your phone, painting, adult coloring books, listening to music, or trying out new apps. You can also explore new movie genres or try watching documentaries and series to expand your options. Additionally, you might want to consider meditation or mindfulness exercises to help with staying present and managing your thoughts.
