hi everyone! I am a 28 year old female who recently was diagnosed with cptsd from childhood abuse, being stalked, and from secual assult. for a long time I've been using alcohol to cope. not daily usage, but binges and blackouts around 1 time every couple months. last June, I graduated school to work in a very high stress occupation (in healthcare). I got a job right away but the transition has been extremely difficult for me. my episodes of drinking and depression have been spiraling. this week, I decided to take fmla to try and take care of myself and my mental well-being. I've always been am extremely hard worker but have never had the opportunity to do this. now that I'm on day 4, I'm starting to feel guilty about my choice. I feel like I'm letting my team down at work and I'm afraid if repercussions because I took this as an emergency. I'm not even sure exactly what I'm asking, I guess just if anyone has any suggestions about how I can use my time off to feel productive but still heal. I don't know how to feel good about myself unless I'm working. thank you to all! I'd be happy to talk to anyone who has had similar experiences as me. it would be good to know I'm not alone šŸ–¤

Sometimes you just need to talk about your struggles..sometimes you just need to let it all out so it's not all bottled up

Put yourself first & look into EMDR therapy. It changed my life. My PTSD is very minimal now.

Trb thank you for your kind words. Taking this time has been a very difficult decision for me and I appreciate the validation that it is necessary to help with cptsd. I'm regards to your trauma, I always think of that saying that someone can drown in 10 feet of water and someone can drown in 20 feet of water but they're still drowning. I'm sorry you had anything (big or small) happen to cause you this disorder. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Hi. I also suffer from cptsd. Though mine was due to things no where near as bad as the trauma you had to go through. I'm sorry for what happened to you. Definitely taking personal time is extremely important, don't worry about letting your team down, your health is way more important.

Thank you ! I'm about to go on a walk and buy some birdseed. Maybe try to do one productive thing a day and relax for the rest. Its very hard not to be chronically busy lol
