Crying as a Coping Mechanism for Anxiety: Is it Healthy?

When I have a lot of anxiety building up inside of me and I don’t know how to deal with it other than to just cry to make myself feel better. Is this a healthy way to deal with anxiety or should I find another way to help myself?

nothing wrong with a good cry. i often find it either wears me out to the point i can fall asleep or i at least shed some of the stress and tension. it would be a good idea to have some other coping tools at your disposal. unfortunately crying is not always socially acceptable depending on the situation and sometimes it can be hard to calm down once you’ve started. you can try googling self-soothing techniques and see if anything you’d like to try pops out at you. focused breathing and meditation tracks paired with lavender scented candles are some things that work for me. once you find some techniques that help you then you can make a list that you can easily access once the anxiety attack starts to happen. best of luck to you 💛
