I am curious about what experiences others have had with managing all aspects of schizophrenia and the journey that others have taken. Be it medication changes (many), celiac panel, numerous hospital stays or anything that people have found to be beneficial. I have been stable for a number of years and I am curious about the journey of others.

With voices, I've been given helpful advice..they r there for purpose, test them, ask wise questions, don't just obey them, treat as if they r a part of u like have compassion kindness if aggressive angry. With Seroquel, I don't have paranoia or racing thoughts. With stress, I experience symptoms n take a prn for it. I have electronic med dispensar so command voices don't get me off meds. I've added yoga chigong Tai chi for meditation to destress plus affirmation n meditations. I research my symptoms or mental health struggles..I've advocated for a treatment team to help me so at stable through counsel or tackle stuff casemgr can help with like mental health directive. I now take responsibility for my daily mental health wellness n have insight by studying n interviewing people who had interaction with me when I'll. I'm open to share my struggles with counselor now..before I didn't want to cuz it was so off.

@AsianSunshine very happy to hear you take charge of your condition. Inspires me :)
I have had a long journey of about 13 years since high school and with medication I was mostly stable, could ho go school and work. However, I always had doubts and dealt with psychiatrists who never really gave me the care I was looking for, they never really listened to my concerns. Finally I found the courage to get another opinion and they said I was asymptomatic and I went on a tapering off my medication with observation over pandemic, but unfortunately relapsed and had a bad psychotic episode and ended up in a hospital and have been recovering for about a year now. I do wonder if all of it could have been avoided if I just had good trustworthy doctors to begin with. Its a long journey but it seems like life can be stable if you find the right care. That seems to be some of my takeaways at this point anyway. Good luck on your journey!
@Kermit143 it is a shame that you are unable to find the care that you need. I experienced the same thing 20 years ago and it was disastrous. I was hospitalized over 20 times within a 5 year period. I finally had enough of professionals telling me what was best and took matters into my own hands. I demanded the Invega injection, but that created uncontrollable tremors. So now I am on the oral form and I am stable. I have also stopped therapy because no one understood exactly what I was saying. I am receiving my masters in anthropology and I am doing self evaluation. No one knows our own minds like ourselves. Despite all of the turmoil that was created, my life is good. And I NEVER say that I "struggle" with mental illness. I am the master of my life and nothing will prevent me from experiencing life to the fullest.
@JRM I'm so glad you found a situation where you can be more stable now. Going through a hospitalization once was a big experience for me, so I can only imagine what those 5 years were like for you. We do have to self manage a lot but hopefully we can reach a point where we can find the care that aligns with our needs, not just medication, but even how we are spoken to. I am fortunately able to have decent therapy and I hope you might be able to find therapy that fits your needs some day if you are looking for it. One thing one provider told me was that I could live a full and meaningful life if I wanted to, and I believe that is the case for you. Anthropology is an amazing field
