I have adhd and am trying to take a social media break. Of course the dopamine dependency on social media makes that hard. Anyone have tips?

I’ve managed to stay off Twitter and weaning myself off Instagram. Slowly but surely

if you can find something dopamineergic outside of it then that should work, but in my experience unless you are naturally inclined to do the alternate activity you will find it really difficult to keep going and inevitable slink back into the social media. best of luck!

Oof ... quick draw fingers pressing the reply b4 im done. Annnyway. What i do now is have an mp3 player and tell ppl I won't be around (my SO. Or ppl im talking to alot of msgrs and stuff bc I am normally always online via my phone.) I turn off the phone plug it in to charge qnd don't use it for X amount of time. Write down any questions I come up with qnd want to look up and settle into craft hobby or study I want to do. I have found no other way for myself.

@Trudie_tootie thank you for this. I find that the dopamine rush I get from Twitter is really about hobbies and things I’m interested in so I’m definitely going to just focus on those instead of scrolling mindlessly

@Haleyc210 thats a fantastic thing. And I agree spend so much time looking at things I want to do instead of doing!

Like stated above deleting is great. I don't bc I don't want to have to redo passwords.

Start trying to focus on your interests outside of your phone. Any hobbies you could spend more time on. Journaling is always a good one, it helps to keep more present and mindful. Perhaps you’re into art, or reading. Take advantage of music! Music is a great way to keep us stimulated. Try finding new music too!

Delete all of them from your phone

@ClumsyWorm yeah I did that I still was going on my browser. I finally had my friend take my password and just felt more ready to take a break. So I guess it’s about what mindset you’re in as well
