Cannabis dependence, or cannabis use disorder, is a disorder characterized by problematic marijuana use, which causes distress for the user. It affects 10% of the cannabis users in the world.

Symptoms may include continuing using cannabis despite physical or psychological problems, craving cannabis, continuing to use cannabis despite social or relationship problems, giving up or reducing other activities in favor of cannabis, and taking cannabis in high risk situations, taking more than intended, tolerance to cannabis, and withdrawal symptoms when trying to stop taking it.
Diagnosis is based on medical history and understanding the symptoms and the effect cannabis has on the person’s life.
