Avoidant personality disorder is a personality disorder which is characterized by feelings of extreme social inhibition, and sensitivity to negative criticism and rejection. Avoidant personality disorder is diagnosed in a conversation with a mental health specialist by meeting the following criteria: Avoids occupational activities involving significant interpersonal contact, due to fears of criticism, disapproval, or rejection.
