To those with social anxiety. Is there always trauma related to it? If you are comfortable sharing, can you share what kind of trauma you experienced which led to the development of your social anxiety? Thank you?

My life is full of traumas, but I don’t think I can attribute my social anxiety/agoraphobia to any one instance. I think neurodivergence caused me to never feel remotely “normal” or comfortable in social situations, so I have always been avoidant & anxious of having to be around other people, since masking is so exhausting.

I have social anxiety but I don’t think it’s trauma related because I’ve never had any negative social experiences, at least not that I can remember, I’ve just always been like that and it’s gotten progressively worse the older I get

Yes, I was bullied for years at school and my parents didn't seem to care, so I felt like an outsider and unsafe

@coldforest ☹️ I'm really sorry that happened, and I'm sorry your parents weren't supportive.

You might find this article interesting, I first read it several months ago. It is common for the onset of Social Anxiety to be precipitated by a negative life event, particularly a social trauma. For me, it started that way as well. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0887618520300426#:~:text=Most%20individuals%20experienced%20social%20trauma,condition%20rather%20than%20two%20disorders.
