I’m currently being sued by a church after I shared that I was abused by a staff member. It’s stressing me out so much! I don’t have a lawyer yet. It happened aprx 7 years ago and I dissociate hard core every time I talk about it in detail, which is baking it hard to pin an attorney down for myself. Does anyone have any coping strategies or ever been in a similar situation?

Get yourself to a place where you can just think about what factually happened and write it down in a word document. you can go back and copy paste what you wrote or just send the document in an email to potential lawyers. if you have a therapist, they will be excellent help with this

I used to disassociate a lot more than I do now. I say that to tell you there is hope to find a way to be able to stay more present. I found a good therapist that helped me learn some tools inviting mindfulness techniques that helped me recognize it's starting so I can pull back. It sounds crazy but I also read a book recently that talks about talking to your emotions to see what they want you to know instead of fighting them. It's tough and you have to be gentle with yourself if you do that but I've learned a lot about myself doing that. I hope you find a good lawyer and win your case. Church abuse fires me up so much. Good luck to you!

First you need to get a good therapist and 2nd get a good attorney that deals with these kind of issues. Research online. Get an attorney on pro bono! You have to be strong and not fear. There is nothing you did wrong. You are a victim. Churches like these should be shut down. They should had have an internal investigation instead of suing you. Shame on them. Best of luck.

The church itself is imperfect too

I used to consider myself Christian. No longer. I'm solid agnostic. I love how a Christian organization sues the fricking victim. I'm sorry you're going through this tho. I hope someone can point you in the right direction to win this bullshit situation and make them pay attorneys fees.

@Somi it's a huge difference between religion and Christianity. Religion is man made, don't do this, don't dress like that, don't talk to this person. It can become a cult even. Being a Christian is following God not man. Going to church has changed a lot. A bunch of hypocrites, judging and looking down on people. It's all about the mighty dollar.

I was a preschool teacher at a church until they saw that I was living with my boyfriend. They gave me the ultimatum to either get married or they would fire me. I wasn’t with the guy too long and had recently been divorced. I called EEOC to represent me. Unfortunately I lost the case.

Look up grounding techniques on the internet and prepare them for when you have to discuss what happened.
