Hello, I am uncertain if I have OCD. I Have borderline personality disorder but have found I have a lot of OCD tendencies. I have a question. I struggle a intrusive thoughts. I ruminate a lot over ‘taboo thoughts’, my sexuality, etc. (I am a married woman). seems like one intrusive thought or doubt is enough to topple my entire identity and make me feel like a dirty person. Anyone relate? Any suggestions?

One thing that helped me with my OCD about not exactly the same thing, but other various similar OCD thoughts is when my therapist told me everyone has those same thoughts. Everyone has thoughts that they would never actually do or aren't true and to the average person they don't dwell on it. A lot of people with OCD think that those thoughts make them a bad person or that if they have the thought that it must be true/they would do it. What helps me is a list. I have the intrusive thoughts on the left column and the truth on the right. Seeing it kind of helps me.

I 100% relate, I have OCD and BDP and I am bisexual, I have to work to not have fantasies about men and women. I grew up super conservative and was judged for everything and it has greatly effected me to have thoughts I can't control. I have gotten so much better at releasing and reassuring myself about my values and goals.

@PrettyPolar2 thanks so much for replying! I am a straight married woman and get scared when I have intrusive thoughts asking whether or not I am this or that (don’t want to get too detailed on this app- but you get the idea). I too grew up in a religious purity culture. It makes me feel really gross because no matter how much I obsess over that question- I never feel satisfied! Like I am lying to myself or something. OCD bad BPD tendencies is a trail mix of fun! 🫥 How do you maintain your sense of values? I’m in DBT but haven’t gotten there yet!

One user shared their experience with intrusive thoughts and OCD, suggesting that when you have a thought, take a moment to determine if it's intrusive or not. Intrusive thoughts are unwanted and can make you feel uncomfortable. To manage these thoughts, some people use exposure therapy, fact-checking, and coping skills for anxiety. However, it's essential to consult a mental health professional for a proper diagnosis and personalized advice.
