Dealing with Intrusive Thoughts and Compulsions in OCD

Hi! One of the conditions I have is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) I often show more compulsive traits than obsessive. For example: I get intrusive thoughts that tell me something that makes absolutely no sense but my brain tells me to do the command anyway... Like yesterday I woke up at like 2 am with this intrusive thought that told me that unless I run a mile my family will die. and if I don't follow the thought then I have an impending sense of doom and end up with an anxiety attack. what helps calm these thoughts down besides meds?

I’ve had that as well, and then some….It’s so debilitating. 52 yrs with my memory of it starting at 7yrs old. I went from psychologist and psychiatrist., no one at the time knew how to handle it let alone treat it. I ended up doing a study program at UCLA. And was put on Prozac. I’ve had to adjust the dose occationally over the years. It has some benifits for OCD but definitely helped with depression that comes along with OCD. I feel for you all on here. Just wish we could just find the problem or correct meds to eliminate this horrible disorder!!!!

doing exposure therapy helps with compulsions. fact checking can be helpful with intrusive thoughts. and also using coping skills that help with anxiety can help ease the anxiety that comes with ocd thoughts
