does anyone else whos considered "high functioning" and "coping/managing well" with symptoms feel that professionals will often invalidate you (sometimes subconsciously/unintentionally) and be all like "youve been working on your anxiety, you got this!" when in reality this monster of anxiety has been here and hasnt budged a bit since. the fear is just as strong, as is the discomfort. im still socially anxious, im still struggling

Unfortunately until you engage in trauma therapy coping is the only thing that you can do. The reality is the trauma doesn't go away, but you can train yourself through a variety of tools to make your reactions not substantial. You'll still feel the feeling and that sucks, but you can find healthy ways to redirect that energy. You'll always have the underlying trauma that gives you the social anxiety, and rn the best way to deal with it is 1) learn healthy coping techniques and the 2) work your way up the social anxiety triggers from least bad reaction to worst and just keep exposing yourself as a kind of training to use those healthy coping techniques so you can be a functional human once again. You'll always feel those feelings. It's what you do with those feelings and how you handle those reactions.

A: Yes, some people who are considered "high functioning" and managing their symptoms well may feel invalidated by professionals who assume they have overcome their anxiety. This can lead to feelings of frustration and a sense that their ongoing struggles with anxiety are not being acknowledged or understood.
