Finding Peace in Silence: Using Hearing Aids to Cope with Overstimulation

Anyone else who uses hearing aids love coming home from work/school, taking them out and just sitting in silence? I do this a lot when it gets too noisy or overstimulating in an area.

Can you help? connect today

YES I do this all the time. Whenever I’m out in the world I use them so I can, sometimes, identify surrounding sounds. I’m profoundly deaf so the hearing aids can only do so much. I’m also DeafBlind so having the “extra” input throughout the day helps tremendously. Though, when I get home, I take them off because I know my surroundings and don’t have to worry about anything happening.

I love doing this but I don’t do it often cuz it worries my parents (I’m currently living with them) and they think something is wrong when I do it. So I wait until both of them are out of the house and then I walk around the entire house without my hearing aid or cochlear implant! It can feel soooooo refreshing and it’s one of the few times I feel entirely me.
