Please don't ever listen to someone talking about your mental health like that. You don't have to do anything for others, your mental health is yours alone, and if you want a diagnosis, you should get it.

Kinda the same thing with me and someone told me after I got diagnosed that I am not my diagnosis and only to disclose it for treatment purpose
@Overcomer That isn't necessarily healthy. No, you aren't just your diagnosis, but in some situations, being open about it can help. Being told to only disclose it for treatment purposes is a way for them to pretend it isn't happening. But you should never have to deal with anything completely alone. Hiding it to make others more comfortable doesn't make it go away. Tell whomever you need to tell.
@jam064 I get bullied and tease and put down a lot. I don't think I will ever self disclose. That's why I was told not to
People who tells you don't don't realize that exact thing is the reason we've masked for so long! They know the masking you that's why they don't think you have it! Remember your truth is your truth and you don't need anyone else telling you what you already know!
Get the diagnosis. Like your grandmother, my mom used to work with autistic kids but she didn't realize I'm autistic because she saw the kids who needed more help/assistance in day to day life. My mom had some doubts but once I got diagnosed things started to click. She never yelled at me for wanting the diagnosis (though I'm certain my father would have if he knew but that's way off topic) but anyways now my mom and I have conversations where we look back and realize more things that I did as a kid that she just overlooked that were signs of my autism.

I would ask her why not and tell her that if she can make a compelling argument with facts to support it, you'd consider her opinion. I promise that she can't. And then if she tries, present facts supporting the idea that you are autistic. I did this to my grandma. She gave up pretty quickly and actually learned that I probably do. Most of the time, people are so against it because they're misinformed about autism.
@Entropyluna she claims it because shes worked with autistic kids (she was a teacher) and i have none of the "symptoms"

@Sharkie_Girl I guess she's not aware that autism is a spectrum, and presents differently in every single person who has that. Autism also used to be diagnosed in people that had other conditions that caused symptoms that fit autism. It still happens today, but to a lesser degree. A common example is kids with genetic disorders getting diagnosed with autism because that's "easier" to deal with than a genetic disorder. It's likely that the symptoms she's thinking of if she used to teach a while ago were symptoms of other conditions and not autism. Also just an interesting side note. Self-diagnosed autism is more valid than diagnosed autism since there are more people diagnosed with autism that don't have it than people who self-diagnosed and don't have it.
Tbh, it's up to you. She doesn't have to believe it but you are who you are.
in my experience, adults will try to convince you you dont have something because they deem it as making you less of a person, or because it would mean they would have it too and they dont want to deal with that. just remember that you are valid, if you want a diagnosis then go get it for YOU! and if you are in a position where you need your grandmas help to get a diagnosis, maybe see if theres another family member or friend that can help instead?
Get the diagnosis anyway and they then can't deny it
