Discovering the Impact of Encephalitis After 20 Years

Despite contracting Encephalitis almost 20 years ago I'm only just learning about the impact it has had on my life. I wasn't aware it was a prolonged symptom illness so I've always believed I had depression, amnesia, insomnia etx or was just impaired mentally and never knew the reason? I did not have the correct people around me during that time in my life and cannot remember a course of after care? I have battled the last 2 decades to be "normal" which has been so hard, then I was asked recently why when you have a disability are you trying without help? Other than knowing I had epilepsy as a result of my brain trauma I didn't know anything else? Confused, it's been like a bitter sweet light bulb moment has gone off in my head.
