Met with yet another doctor about my crippling fatigue and PEM, only to be told I need to lose weight and exercise. I’m so tired of not being taken seriously.

That happened to me. It ended up being on pregabalin was the reason for my weight gain. Since coming off it I've lost 18lbs 😯

Doctors will pin anything and everything on weight. I was told my neurological condition I was diagnosed with at 7 would get better if I shed some pounds because he didn't want to give me medication to help me manage my tics Doctors are incredibly lazy when they see a patient in a bigger body. I was told if I walked 2 miles a day that my chronic pain would go away. Since that conversation, I've lost roughly 20lbs due to changes in medication, and I'm in much higher levels of pain and have now moved to using a mobility aid because my condition is degrading my mobility Fatphobic doctors have no idea what they're doing and risk lives because of their dismissal of patient pain and concerns. I'm really sorry you have to go through this, it's so unfair that smaller people get better medical care and attention just because of the way they look. You don't deserve this mistreatment

One user shared their experience of changing doctors when they felt unheard: "I solved this by changing doctors. If the person you're seeing doesn't believe in CFS or isn't listening to you, unfortunately there isn't a way to magically change their mind. It's hard work to find a sympathetic doctor who's willing to listen to your perspective on your own symptoms and experience but once I finally found that person a diagnosis came relatively quickly."
