Hi so this is kinda weird for me but no therapist understands enough to help me with this one so maybe some of you guys could give me some relationship advice/what’s different with being in a relationship/going out/meeting with a non disabled person? I’ve always felt like I’d never actually grow up like everyone else because I’m disabled(I know that doesn’t really make sense but it’s what I thought) so I never thought any of that self exploration about identity and who you are/ what you want just never applied to me and especially dating and stuff like that I always just assumed I was gross looking/physically couldn’t be in a relationship and I’d be a burden anyways to my partner but now idk I’m 18 almost 19 so not the time to stress about relationships and get serious with anyone but of course I’ve had some crushes and see people my age dating so that’s made me think on how I’m not really concerned about me not dating at 18 I just feel sad and kinda worried that I still will feel like a burden or “the disabled one” in the relationship or like they’d see me more as someone they HAVE to assist/take care of years from now and I really really don’t want that but I just don’t know what to say/think instead—how has everyone’s experience been with being disabled and dating? I know it’s pretty much the same as usual with the ups & downs but….idk just maybe more stories or information on this will help me out with the idea more or like what to look out for red & green flags?? I just feel like it’s weirdly impossible for me later in life when I want to be with someone.
