Does anyone else get serious anxiety relating to social media? I try to delete them but it's hard to being a young person who relys on it for keeping up relationships.

Yes I ended up just unfollowing a lot of people that made me stressed to see their posts for whatever reason as my main issue I suppose was jealousy of not being able to socialise like them and insecurities and it’s been sooo much better since I did that now I mostly use social media to watch recipes and cat videos and just communicate with the people I feel comfortable doing so with and social media has become way less stressful since then

Definitely it can make me feel like I'm being left out and I have to be someone that I am not but I've recently been posting what I want and what I believe and unfollowing accounts that are unrealistic
I created a special social media account just for relaxing to help with that purpose. It’s a secret Instagram account where I only follow things I like, and things that keep me calm and in a peaceful state. It’s been helping

I ended up creating a ‘finsta’ where I only let people I wanna talk to or see online follow me. It didn’t eliminate the problem, I think I might create a second one and update who’s in it, but it did wildly decrease me comparing myself to old highschool peers and family members
Yes totally!! At first because my ex would stalk me abd then it became a competition of who had the best looking life, politicak debates, total time suck...i also had to have seperate face book accounts fir family only, current friends, high school reunion contacts as i cant trust my family....i stay off of them...iccassionally get dragged back in and feel anxioys again.. I like the inspirational quotes the best

Same, but I'm not too social anymore. My biggest suggestion is to try and hack you recommended post/for you page or whatever its called on other apps. By that I mean review the content you look at and try to create a safe space on social media. I made a new Instagram account specifically for viewing post that will make me happy. And I try to stray away from interacting with anything negative. So now my explore pages are full with content like cats, art and shows I like. It helps me use social media for happy things and that can help balance out the anxiety the social aspect the apps bring. I still hate message people (even close friends) but at least I still open the app semi regularly, enough to check and possibly respond or even just send a meme or something.💕
@bugaboo_ dude I love that—I forget how much control we have over the algorithm sometimes
I’m the same way! I want to delete it so badly, but I’m already so isolated due to chronic illness. I’m worried that if I’m not active on social media, the friends I have left will forget about me. You’re not alone. Social media can cause sooo much stress!
@ninners I understand how alone you can feel with illness! There are support groups out there or connecting with a church congregation! There are some New Age Churches which are much friendlier , more relaxed setting verses attending traditional services. A church in New Age is nondenominational, Christian Scripture as it relates to our current community issues. They have contemporary music, relaxed seating, hot chocolate, tea, coffee, water and cookies & popcorn to enjoy during the service. Day care available too. You can easily meet other parishioners and be as involved in a choice of smaller interest groups. Look and ask others about known community church services in your area!
Step out of your comfort zone: using your phone as a crutch. Get involved in a volunteer program to help you with feeling useful!
I’ve recently deleted most social media and recommend trying a week away from most if not all social media. Good luck and prayers!
