How do you deal with being severely triggered? I just tried to watch Assassination Nation with someone and we had to stop the movie because I started hyperventilating. How can people stand to watch this? I am so shocked by what is in our world. It’s so overwhelming and it allows real and violent things to happen.

OMG I still remember people heckling me about Game of Thrones. Saying that I should stop being a baby or whatever. I’m like no, I just don’t want some gross blood and guts I’ll have literal nightmares!

I could not watch game of thrones because it was too triggering for me and I felt very frustrated because everyone was always talking about it or I would have to leave the room when it was on

Omg I do the same thing- I always feel like I’m being lame but I just can’t do graphic violence, I’ll have nightmares and it gets me super afraid and reactive. I watched the Revenant about the bear and it literally made me throw up. I’ve realized at this point I’d rather be “lame” and say no to watching something, than be triggered and not sleep for three days 🤷🏻‍♀️ but once I’m like that what helps me is to go somewhere alone to calm down. Sometimes weed helps, but mostly what I do is take a walk, or do some stretchers while I listen to music

I would avoid watching movies that have triggers

Be honest with the person. I lost my Dad 3 years ago and to this day when someone loses their parent in a movie more times than not I have to shut it off because I start breaking down instantly. If the person you’re with truly cares about you it shouldn’t bother them and they should try to understand
