Struggling with Horror Movie Paranoia

Does anyone else have a hard time watching horror movies? I love horror movies but every time I watch one I get insanely paranoid for like a week and I don't know how to make it stop. If anyone else experiences this or has any tips on how to at least lessen the blow lmk πŸ‘

Horror movies are both a comfort and a trigger for me, unfortunately. I can only watch them in the daylight hours or I won't be able to sleep that night. I also avoid movies that contain themes surrounding my delusions, as I don't want to add fuel to the fire. For paranoia in general, I go for silly media instead. If that doesn't work, I try to distract myself with stuff unrelated to thing that made me paranoid in the first place.

I LOVE horror movies but have to warn people that no matter how silly they think the movie is it’s going to trigger my paranoia. Immediately after watching something scary I watch something comedic or make a habit of going to bed an hour earlier because late night makes it worse. comforting shows that provoke an opposite strong emotion help me combat immediate paranoia

That might help. I watched The Conjuring and The Ring a few weeks ago and was fine for a bit but then one random night I was paralyzed in bed with paranoia and fear. My bf had to keep reassuring me that nothing was in the house or outside trying to get me. Today I got him to watch IT with me. We just finished the movie but I can already feel the paranoia setting in. I'm definitely going to try watching something more light hearted to see if it works.
