Hey everyone,! So, I've been thinking a lot about something that's been bothering me. A couple of weeks ago, my family came over for dinner and we started talking about my cancer diagnosis. I was diagnosed with Mantle cell lymphoma about three years ago, and during our conversation, my niece made a comment like "Oh, it's just cancer, right? You'll get over it soon." I was pretty hurt and frustrated by her attitude. Have any of you ever been in a similar situation? How did you handle people's misconceptions and stigmas around your illness?

Oh shoot! Sounds like she might be still figuring out how the world works, don’t take it in too hard, embrace her with love and find strength to smile again. Warm hugs

I feel your niece’s comment was out of place and i kinda understand how you feel. Please don’t take it to heart , she might just not understand alot of things regarding your diagnosis, or maybe that's her subconscious defence mechanism talking... just remember to keep an open mind and try not to dwell on it too much.

One user shared that they found some easy-to-understand resources online and shared them with their loved ones to bridge the gap between medical jargon and their understanding. Another user suggested using simple analogies, like comparing energy levels to a battery that doesn't charge to 100%, to help others understand why they're so tired all the time.
