How have you gotten a diagnosis? I’m 21 years old and female. I live in a state that doesn’t have good healthcare options. The only doctor I felt has taken me seriously was a non-white man- but even then the empathy isn’t felt for many things. Everyone here is used to people with drug addictions trying to get supply so it is common practice to dismiss many people with real problems. I’m in pain. I had to leave a job because of lupus symptoms basically causing my body to swell in a million areas. I have anxiety at doctors offices. I have since I’ve been a kid. My pains have been dismissed often. If I get a test back that answers nothing: instead of searching for answers it seems like they just give up. I’ve never seen a rheumatologist before, but I’m scared to find a doctor because I’m scared I will just be dismissed. I don’t even know where to start with my chronic pain. I had a lipoma on my rib cage removed and there had been to cage squeezing pain with any physical activity since before I even found the lipoma a year and a half ago. How do I find a doctor that will take me seriously? What do I need to look for? How do I go about asking for a diagnosis? I have no idea what kind of doctor to even see for chronic pain.

Can you try to get an appointment at a reputable out of state clinic and go there? You can often follow up virtually after visiting in person the first tome

To find a doctor who will take you seriously, consider asking for referrals to specialists like rheumatologists or neurologists, as they may be more experienced in diagnosing and treating chronic pain. Be consistent about your needs and request further testing if necessary. Document your pain, symptoms, and any factors that might be related to help provide more information to the doctor. Seeking a doctor in a larger area with more options may also increase your chances of finding one who will listen and work towards a diagnosis.
