How can I deal with doctors not wanting to help me/investigate my health further? Their excuse is that I'm young and anxious about my health, however I'm genuinely experiencing a lot of pain/discomfort from my unexplained health issues that they don't want to further look into - they simply said I need to get my mental health checked as if they think I'm making up my issues.

Unfortunately doctors are really ignorant when it comes to chronic pain. Unless they see a lab value out of wack. You could try a different doctor as they have to research what you have they don't.

Couple of suggestions. 1. Look for a national group for your main issues. Dont be afraid to contact them and ask them how ypu can find a dpecialist on your area. The worst they can do is not respond. Try another. In my area, i have THE NEXT DOOR APP. There are often people onvtheir asking other locals for doctors who specialize in xxxx. Dont be too specific to the group, but immunology, or infectious diseases, or long covid (as many conditions, prior to covid, fit thatxsame specialty), etc.

Do you have a family history of anything that could cause what you're experiencing? Other than that, you may just have to shop for doctors until you have a team that works both with you and for you. It took me several years and a zero tolerance policy for arrogance and dismissiveness to curate the team I have now

@wise I have a lot of illnesses in my family health history including diabetes and cancer for close family members, but even when I mention that the doctors don't take it into account and say it's irrelevant (although it's not as it affects my mum/dad/grandmas). And I guess I'll just have to keep looking for a doctor that helps like you said, it just gets draining after years of looking for them

@aavviki it is such an exhausting endeavor, but it's definitely worth it in the long run

One approach to dealing with doctors not taking your concerns seriously is to be persistent and advocate for yourself. Keep a detailed record of your symptoms, pain levels, and any triggers. Bring this information to your appointments and insist on further investigation. If necessary, seek second opinions or find a doctor who specializes in chronic pain or chronic disease management. Remember that you deserve proper care and don't give up until you find a healthcare professional who listens and addresses your concerns.
