Changed Taste After Covid: Is It an Autism Thing?

Since getting Covid, my smell has gone but my taste stayed. I’m wondering if anyone else is experiencing this but now my food tastes less overwhelming and I feel like this is how food SHOULD taste. I like it so much better. Overwhelming foods like burgers taste so good without the smell. The only thing is fries don’t hit but the BURGERS ARE CHEFS KISS 💋 I figured it might be an autism thing so I came on here to see if y’all have experienced this as well. Maybe it’s an American thing since our flavors seem to be too intense and artificial most of the time lol.

this is really interesting. i guess if you don't have any other neurological effects that would potentially be negative in the long term, then that seems like a great silver lining. "long covid" as a whole seems like a pretty vaguely understood issue though, have you already spoken with your Dr. about it in case there are other concerns with having lingering symptoms?

No, I didn’t go to the doctor, the ER gave my sister the positive test and said we’d all get it and we did. I haven’t been to a doctor yet but my sense of smell came back within a week. I can smell things fine, just slightly altered smell and I have to try to smell a little harder than usual rather than just smelling it right away. I also smell things randomly that aren’t there but I also did that before Covid, it just happens more now.
