I’m breaking up with my manipulative and codependent boyfriend tomorrow. He’s really trying to be a good person and he’s not doing it on purpose but it still gets to me and after three years i’ve kind of forgotten how to exist on my own. His anxiety keeps his world really small when he eats the same foods and watches the same shows over and over and I need more variety in my life. I really want to help him heal but I intend to do it as part of his support net instead of being the one person he can talk to. I really hope we can stay friends and I hope our friend group doesn’t break apart. I don’t have any friends outside of this relationship. I know he’s going to try everything he knows to talk me out of it but I’m going to be strong(stubborn) and watch my words to make sure I don’t agree to anything i’m uncomfortable with. If anyone has any advice or words of encouragement they would be greatly appreciated…

He’s having a really bad day today and it’s making me want to save this for another day because it’ll make everything so much worse for him but i’ve been putting it off for so long I have to do it or Itll just be worse

I statements definitely are great ! I feel this way when this … I feel like I need to be … etc I know it seems hard or scary maybe but when I have to do things like this I usually write out a script to help me and I take that with me to read during the conversation.

Way to go! Sometimes the best way you can love and care for someone is to let them go. Go easy on him, and do your best to not talk badly about him to other people afterward. Be sure to use “I” statements when talking through your reasons for breaking up. Good luck! 💕
