Hey so I found myself in a breakdown/meltdown earlier and I’m not really sure what was happening. Currently I am in a relationship trying to fix it and my SO is being kinda petty but I understand she’s taking a break. My meltdown included dissociation and screaming and kicking. I was in another dimension it felt like. I do have BPD. I’m trying to firue out what caused this and what I can do to better control it. I also need relationship advice if anyone wants to be kind to help with that 🥺

Hi Bug! I'm sorry you're going through this, it must be really difficult. In the relationship department, in my experience, hearing my needs and processing them and then hearing my SO's needs as well helps me understand the situation. It does take two people though, and that can be difficult. Space and time are important, as I'm sure you know. Communication is vital in any type of relationship; be sure to communicate your feelings, wants, and thoughts so your SO can understand what's going on in your head. I hope this helps ♥️♥️

Repeated intense conversations have cause this for me during rocky points. I get anxiety because we have the same conversation/argument a million times and I feel traumatized by it. Sometimes I do not engage in the argument even though I feel like I have to defend myself. After a meltdown like this, remember to drink water, take a bath/shower. Sounds weird, but cold water showers or just on my face/arms really helps when you feel dissociative. Because of my autism I never really bring up topics and forget to circle back and deal with them. When possible, remember to try this even if it’s one small thing. You can’t always prevent a meltdown. You can make sure the other person knows that the “size” of your behavior doesn’t exactly translate to how you actually feel about them, even if you were arguing. It’s your body/nervous system/brain/sensory triggers.
