Hello. So I wanted to ask about bariatric surgery. I had a lap band in 2017 that was unsuccessful. A lot of it had to do with habits I wasn’t willing to give up plus a divorce and life events that really kept me in unhealthy patterns. I am 43. I have a 3 year old daughter that needs her Dad. I am about 398 lbs and truly would like to be around 200. I am looking at the sleeve or the bypass. With the lap band a lot of cravings still existed. I still have the hormones that drove the desire to eat. With the lap band I reached a point I had the port unfilled because I was having extreme GERD symptoms. Most of it was my fault forcing food that I knew I shouldn’t have. I’m at a point where I need a way to just physiologically stop me from the binge eating. For those that have had this surgery. What are cravings like? I know if I have the stomach flu the visual of food makes me want to puke. I think one of the reasons the lap band fails is subconsciously you know you can work around it and that if needed it can be removed. What is it like knowing physiologically there is no other option. This is just how it is? I just don’t want to die and I’ve been overweight my entire life. On off days I will sleep 16-18 hours a day. I need to make a change. Do you regret the surgery? Are you glad you did it? What are the barriers I will face? What would be great is if the desire for food was just gone…..

One person shared their husband's experience with gastric sleeve surgery. He initially lost 150 lbs, going from 450 lbs to 300 lbs, but later regained the weight due to emotional eating and dependence on soda. Another person mentioned having gastric bypass surgery 15 years ago and regaining most of their weight multiple times. They suggested talking to the doctor who performed the surgery for tips and resources. It's important to note that individual experiences may vary, and it's crucial to discuss your concerns and options with a medical professional.
