I just want to be listened to. I've had several doctors recommend getting tested for Autism based on my symptoms. And I finally got an evaluation (a very long one covering a handful of illnesses) and all for the woman to refuse to diagnose me because I can make good eye contact and expressions. She told me I ticked all the boxes for Autism but because I was "interacting with her too well, eye contact, expressions, ect" that she cannot diagnose me with Autism. I'm sorry I'm good at making?? And if you put me in certain situations I'm not great at either of those things. It cost so much just to be ignored how are people supposed to get help šŸ˜•

My best friend was in a similar situation, got denied because they "could get through school and hold a job." Ignored the fact that both of these things were not at all easy for my friend. Find another doctor. The sad reality is it's hard to get this diagnosis at an older age because you've learned coping habits, you've figured out how to make eye contact sometimes despite everything through experience. If you believe an official diagnosis will grant you access to being able to improve your life, push for it. It's sort of like saying someone never broke their leg because they've slowly figured out how to walk on it again. A ton of bullcrud. I hope you can find a legit diagnoser, but unfortunately it does take most people who arent kids multiple attempts.

yea, I feel you. all I had done was say ā€œhi, how are youā€ and smiled at this lady and she told me ā€œI could tell you from off the bat you donā€™t have autismā€ and I was just like okay lol. as if I donā€™t have scripts for everytime I greet someone and say it the same exact way every time.

@ThickAndTired I feel that. I count the number of seconds in my head as I make eye contact and then the number of seconds when I look away to try and make sure its not too much or too little

@Erebyssian no literally I usually do eye contact until I get way too uncomfortable, give myself a little break looking away, then come back with my eye contact. idk what it is about eye contact, itā€™s just so discomforting lol
