Anyone have any idea why their fibro started? I think I developed it because I have chronic pelvic pain from endometriosis and my brain got so used to pain that it decided it should be everywhere. But I have no idea if that’s how it works! Thoughts?

Yes. I experienced Therapy Abuse. Can't go back there. It destroyed my life.

My FM started after my car was rear ended and I suffered a severe whiplash. I met someone at work years ago whose FM started the same way.

ugh I’m so sorry that happened to you! That makes a lot of sense, it sounds like it often stems from injuries

My Dr did some tests & found I had antibodies for Epstien Barr Virus (though I had never had symptoms of mono) He said that can trigger the beginning of fibro. I recently saw some research comparing long covid with post EBV & how similar they are. Hopefully it will help the stigma around fibro

oh interesting! I was checked for that but don’t have it and didn’t have Covid either, but I’m so glad that’s giving people some answers!

I think I had it as a kid, but I had a difficult child that needed attention at all times. He ended up in a facility at 12 years old. When he was going to be coming home after a year away, I began having intense muscle spasms all over and the chronic pain set in...I think mine was due to prolonged emotional distress...

I’m sorry that happened to you! That does make a lot of sense though, it’s crazy how emotional pain can lead to long term physical pain

No idea… I’ve had it for 6 years and I have no idea why.. I wish somebody could tell me because I have no idea how this happened to me

Mine was because of a bad car wreck & then going through childhood trauma. Then I got breast cancer witch throw my body into overload. Then I got ptsd & fibromyalgia from it. So for me it was a lot of things that brought on my fibromyalgia.

I had a hysterectomy due to endo, and ended up with a vaginal cuff infection that 2 doctors missed. My pain started after that, within hours, up in my hospital room.

ugh! I also had a hysterectomy but thankfully no complications

I started out with migraines then vulvodynia I didn’t realize it actually started out when my mother died so it was a trauma for me

I believe I developed it because I was heavily abused as a child. The first nerve pain I experienced was at 7yo in a trauma spot - my thighs (BioFather liked to punch me there pretty hard since he didn't have to worry about anyone seeing the bruises). I was told it was growing pains but now I can easily recognize the nerve pain (I used to just call it the "deep bone pain" but it felt like someone was trying to sear the meat right off my bones). It turned to the everyday full body ache + extra pain and hypersensitivity when I was 15 and going through court to separate from BioF. I think my body was in fight or flight and heightened stress so often that it just got stuck in that mode, hence the fibro.

that’s horrible I’m so sorry that happened to you! I also thought mine was growing pains for the longest time. It wasn’t until I was older and no longer growing and started developing more pain that I realized it was fibro

I got shingles twice before I was 10, once at 6 months. Pretty sure that fried my nervous system.

Mine came out after having chronic regional pain syndrome in my back for eight months when i was 13. Thoughts that would be that worst pain i would experience in my life (at least until childbirth), fibro said hold my beer 😂

haha I keep thinking I’ve experienced the worst pain of my life and then something new comes along 🙃

I had a injury at work that resulted in me having a ruptured disk for about 10 years until I got it fused. My body was never the same. The pain didn't match my injury, my body just started hurting itself. I think the fibro was an autoimmune response.

    • Belugabear

      210d

that’s so interesting! Noe that I think about it, I did fall down some stairs right before it all started so an injury might be why mine started too, but honestly who knows

Fibro can definitely be triggered by a mental health disease or physical health disease

  • Anth

I definitely think I was born with it. I've had acid reflux as long as I can remember. But I think the widespread pain only started spreading when I hit puberty. My worst point was 15y.o., right before I was diagnosed and medicated

  • Sarbear98

I think my body because more sensitive as my mind went through trauma. I feel like while I was trying to protect myself so much mentally that all of that energy couldn’t be spared for my body

  • LadyTauriel

Mine was due to an infection after my hysterectomy (due to endo) that 2 ER drs missed, so by the time they caught it, I'd been in blackout levels of pain for 3 days.

I’ve had endo too. Have you tried pt? You could have adhesions from the endo

    • Belugabear

3 years of PT 🙃 but I’m getting an ultrasound that can check for adhesions next week!

I got rocky mountain spotted fever and it damaged my immune system. I have had chronic mono and fibro and a slew of other dumb issues develop in the 12 yrs since.

  • Beeblebee

Mine started after getting diagnosed with Celiac's disease, I was a late diagnosis so I was very sick for a few years before cutting gluten out. I think that trauma to my body triggered it.

  • Kierstyn

I developed fibromyalgia due to childhood trauma.

  • bluedragon

    203d

Fibromyalgia can be triggered by physical diseases as well as mental.. it’s very possible the stress on your body from pain triggered it…. When I flare from my chronic diseases then my fibro flares as well. I hope your pain gets better 🙏

    • Belugabear

      203d

thank you! I’ve noticed the same

  • dailydose

    198d

I can definitely think of a few possible reasons… childhood trauma, a recent trauma two years prior to entering a stressful university environment, an unknown illness that I had for a month which drs told me was not the flu, and a lower back injury 3 years prior

  • poodlelover28

Mine came out of the blue with my autoimmune condition when I was 15. The pain has never fully went away. I was going through untreated depression and anxiety at the time with major stressors in my life so I'm assuming the stress brought it on.
