If it's your first visit most of the time they will do an EEG, I had to when I started going to an adult neurologist.

One thing I'll say is even if you see your neurologist (I used to see mine once a year and one of the appointments lasted a grand total of 2 minutes after it took me an hour and a half to get there), ask if you can be referred to a specialist epilepsy nurse. Mine has basically saved my life, she's just utterly wonderful so definitely worth looking into!

I had an SEEG versus an EEG last time I saw my neurology team to learn that my seizures come from both hippocampi and I was a perfect candidate for an rns implant which they will be scheduling for me in the next week. In the meantime I have staples and stitches in my head to deal with that won't get removed until the 10th and then I'll be able to get back to driving again

I see an epileptologist, not just a general neurologist. But usually he just asks me about my seizures and/or auras I’ve had since I last saw him, and side effects of my meds. Then he suggests whether I should increase or decrease my meds, or switch to a different one. Aside from that, the nurse just does the general stuff. Check my weight, blood pressure, etc. If I have severe side effects from my meds, sometimes he’ll order some blood tests too.

It depends on how bad your seizures are. For me, they weigh me, ask how I'm doing, and we talk about the meds. When I was younger sometimes i did EKGs
