I just got back from my neurologist appointment. I think it went pretty well. He had a new doctor doing her residency come in and do a basic physical on me and ask some questions. She asked me about my seizures and auras and suggested I get an EEG. When my doctor came in though, he said that would be kind of a waste of time since we already know I have seizures. I agreed. He also increased my Vimpat just a bit. Hopefully that’ll at least decrease the auras. Still no tonic clinic or complex partial seizures since he switched me from the Trileptal to the Vimpat, and I’m driving again, but the auras continue. I’m just glad I’m relatively safe now. I stay off major highways and take the bus for my work commute. I haven’t noticed any major side effects from the Vimpat (yet). I also told him about some of my other medical providers, like the PA I’m seeing for my osteoporosis and also my PCP. He referred to me to a rheumatologist for the osteoporosis, which I think is a good thing. I’d rather see an actual doctor than a PA. And then I told him how unsatisfied I’ve been with my PCP. He’s just so hands-off. He asks me how I’m doing, does some blood work, and sends me on my way. It just seems like he doesn’t care, or at the very least is in a hurry all the time. The neurologist doing her residency did more than my PCP has ever done. She checked my reflexes, my heartbeat, etc., AND did blood work. So anyway, my neurologist referred me to another general practitioner to be my PCP. Hopefully this doctor will be better. Now for the fun part…explaining all this crap to my mom without her having a panic attack.
