As someone who is still really new to a FM diagnosis, I've seen people mention possibly using mobility aids as a way to manage the pain (while also making sure to maintain exercise and such when possible). As someone who is super young comparatively, but is still struggling with the symptoms, would it be reasonable to look into that? Or would it be better to look at other treatment options instead?

@codacola I thought that too, for a long time. A cane will help. Use it for the weakest side, it will give you strength on both sides. Don't get a quad or easy cane, just get a straight cane, use it in the opposite hand then your weakest side. So every step is a tripod. You will find relief. God bless.

I have a shower chair and a switch stick chair/cane combo I named Vixen. Definitely improved my quality of life and anxiety about balance/pain.

If you need mobility aids do it. I own a wheelchair, cane, shower rails, shower chair, knee and back braces. I don't need them all the time. Only when I'm having a super bad flare up and can't walk or even stand. Or dizzy. I have them as emergencies.

@mustardseedfaith7 Yeah, I've been using a shower chair and rails and those have made things a lot easier on me, hence why I'm thinking about maybe trying other aids.

What symptoms do you have? What were you thinking of getting? I agree with what everyone said. I feel like there is a time and place for them and sometimes they can get in your way. Just try them out and see how it goes?

@Chesbro99 I have a lot of joint pain in my knees and hips, so walking is hard for me sometimes, along with just some really extreme fatigue (to name the most prominent ones). I know people use canes and such, my problem is that the pain is on both sides of my body, but a walker seems like too much at the same time. So I'm not super sure what aids I'd be looking at getting to be honest.

I started at 16, my son started at 15. You are never too young to get fibromyalgia, it doesn't hurt to grow, it is probably fibromyalgia. Give yourself a break.

You know your body better than anyone else! Personally I found that using mobility aids made my pain worse because I would t get enough movement, but there are certainly times I wish I had one. Whether you choose to use one or not, please keep pursuing other causes! I just found out my fibro might just be caused by a spine deformity that can be fixed! Keep pushing either way

In my opinion, age does not matter. If you feel you need them, if that will help you, go for it! I used a cane for a bit when I was 16, as well as a back brace. It helped me a lot! If people are saying things like "You're so young, you don't need that!" They are misinformed. The only thing that matters in recovery is what YOU think will help YOU. Even if a medical professional says something along those lines and you don't agree, they are wrong. A degree in medical school does not mean they know how you feel.
