I just started my new medicine aripiprazole. I'm still adjusting to it so I know I'm still going to flip a switch in my emotions. I haven't flipped to physical anger in YEARS. Since probably 2019 to be exact when I was with my ex. I am now with a new guy and he is amazing. I've been with him for 1 year and we've been amazing together. Ever since I started my new meds the littlest things he does makes me so angry and want to hit him. Any advice on how to help control the anger? I hate feeling this way towards him because he is amazing towards me. it's just stupid little things setting me off. I see my doctor in a few weeks. any advice? please help me!

I took abilify and so did another friend of mine and it didn’t do anything for us, I was probably worse off. if you can, my psychiatrist offered a DNA test that will test a bunch of different meds (not just the ones you used/are using) and see which is actually compatible without actually having to get a month dose and testing it that way. turns out the prozac and abilify i was on did literally nothing for me, so i’d definitely see if this sorr of test is an option for you. i also had a “hell week” with abilify where when i started taking it, i was super short with everyone so it could just be the adjustment period. it was pretty strong for me even on a 25mg dose.

I take abilify and use hydroxyzine to help with anger. I don’t know why but I have so much rage for no reason. The hydroxyzine cuts it back slightly and I heard the Zoloft I am on can help too.

@Deathfuffy I was prescribed hydroxyzine as a sleeping aid/emergency anxiety pill. I may have to talk to my doctor to see if it will also help with my bursts of anger. Thank you so much!!

@Deathfuffy omg! I’m prescribed hydroxyzine too but it’s a PRN med and it never made me feel any different really other than the first time I took it, but the second time I felt nothing. How much Hydroxyzine do you take at once?

@CSweet94 I take 25mg daily and 3 prn of 25mg a day. It seems to help a little

Omg, I’m on Abilify too, and I am also quick to anger. Do you think the two are related...Abilify and anger?!?! And what I do to combat my rage and anger is to walk away, count backwards from 100 till I calm down, I use DBT, and I tell my guy when he’s done something to trigger me before I escalate anything. 99.999% of the time it’s a weird misunderstanding if my guys done something triggering but if I don’t seek clarity I go bonkers. I hope this helps and please feel free to hmu on messenger 🥰💕

@CSweet94 thank you so much! I will definitely take that into consideration! I usually always tell my bf when I've gotten angry over something and he usually let's me calm down and then explains it better. Mostly just misunderstandings.
