Finding the Right Treatment: Prescription or Home Remedies?

how do you know which treatment or medication works best. I've been searching treatments that could work. but my friend just let me know that everything I was taking was probably making it worse. is it best to go the doctor prescription way or the home remedies way.

      I take valacyclovir too...500mg twice a day during an outbreak and it clears it right up. I've also been told olive leaf extract helps kill the virus too.
